How to set GPRS/MMS in China Mobile for DiGi & Maxis
Recently, China mobiles are becoming famous in Malaysia. Most Malaysian have a concept that China mobiles are bad without realizing all those Nokia and Sony is made in China. China is improving so fast, and in fact they still hold the the dual sim dual standby technology. I have personally tried many China mobiles and found out that it is really good except it has some bugs. But China is growing so fast that, every new production of phones is with less bugs and more functions.
Now, this is a tutorial on how to get your GPRS/MMS (Malaysia) to work on China phones.
1. Please make sure you have activated your GPRS & MMS.
If you haven’t, please do so. For DiGi press *128# and for Maxis press *100# and navigate the menu for GPRS & MMS activation and request for the activation first.
2. Then, navigate your phone to Services.
3. There you will find Data Account with certain default data accounts. Select one of those and click edit.
4. Now input these settings into the data account :-
DiGi GPRS
Account Name : DiGi GPRS
APN : digiwap
User : digi
Password : *Leave it empty
Auth. type : Normal
For DiGi, you need to set another data account for MMS with the settings below :
Account Name : DiGi MMS
APN : digimms
User : mms
Password : mms
Auth. type : Normal
Maxis GPRS
Account Name : Maxis WAP GPRS
APN : net
User : maxis
Password : net
Auth. type : Normal
5. Then save this setting and go back to the Services menu. There you will find WAP/Browser, enter it and select settings.
Click on edit profile and select edit profile and input these settings.
DiGi
Profile : DiGi GPRS
Homepage : http://www.google.com
Data account : DiGi GPRS (Just need to select)
User name : digi
Password : *Leave it empty
Maxis
Profile : Maxis WAP GPRS
Homepage : http://www.google.com
Data account : Maxis WAP GPRS (Just need to select)
User name : maxis
Password : wap
OK, now this is the tricky part in China phones. In that same menu you will see Connection Type which is originally set to HTTP. In our setting’s we also need to set it it HTTP but don’t just leave it like that.
6. Select HTTP and enter it and then you will find proxy address and proxy port. These are the most important part of setting up this GPRS/MMS.
Digi
Proxy address : 203.092.128.188
Proxy port : 80
Maxis
Proxy address : 202.075.133.049
Proxy Port : 80
7. Now for MMS, navigate to the MMS messaging area and you will find MMS Settings. Select Server Profile and edit any of those with these settings :
DiGi
Profile : DiGi MMS
Homepage : http://mms.digi.com.my/servlets/mms
Data Account : DiGi MMS
Connection Type : HTTP ( Please refer no. 6 to input the proxies)
Proxy address : 203.92.128.160
Proxy Port : 80
User : mms
Password : mms
Maxis
Profile : Maxis MMS GPRS
Homepage : http://172.16.74.100:10021/mmsc
Data Account : Maxis WAP GPRS
Connection Type : HTTP ( Please refer no. 6 to input the proxies)
Proxy address : 202.75.133.49
Proxy Port : 80
User : maxis
Password : wap
Thats all, its so easy. Just turn off your phone for 5 minutes and on it back and start enjoying GPRS & MMS in China mobiles. If you would like to place this tutorial elsewhere, please give credit and link back to me. Have fun !!

But I believe the customer care in India could help you with this because the last time I went down there I managed to get my GPRS working after talking with of of AirTel customer service consultant. Hey there Andrew, i am kinda of a noob when it comes to this thing and i found your tutorial really useful, but just another question, how much is the rate they are charging for GPRS? Cause my current phone does not have wi-fi services so i am force to use GPRS. It would be really helpful if i know how much i am actually paying for the services that i am getting
[Hi Michelle, glad that my tutorial helped you out. The charges for DiGi would be 10 cents/10 KB and Maxis would be 1 cent/KB. This is the prepaid pay upon usage charges. What operator are you using and is it a prepaid or a postpaid ?]

[Yea its hard to find accessories, I would suggest you to look in ebay US. They have many accessories for china mobiles.]

You can see many people commented their success in configuring their phones which means this tutorial works. If you cannot get it, try again. i would like to ask , is china phone reliable? for example like their iphone, i heard many of my friends said that their touchscreen will have problem later after a few months. cos i m thinking of buying 1, not sure whether shd i buy it o not….
[In my opinion, its ok for normal usage but not reliable for now. Yea i have that problem too. They use cheap items to build the phone. If you don't feel like testing a China phone, I would suggest you to just go for a good branded phones. Even branded phones are pretty cheap nowadays.]

hey bro why the dual sim china phone can’t use the mms in the same time. It only function for the 1st sim but the 2nd sim can not use mms.

[Just like the GPRS, try checking ur MMS setting. Don't point ur MMS to the GPRS setting. You need a separate one for MMS.]
By the way, want to ask do i need to actived 3G MMS or normal MMS? is this the reason why i cannot sent out MMS? as i think i have MMS functions in my old phone all the time.

Sorry as quite slow over here. What do you meant no in the setting as when i click on the MMS icon, it shows:
a) write message
b) inbox/outbox
c)drafts
d) templates
e) MMS setting.
I choose MMS setting, than select Profiles and choose the “Maxis MMS GPRS” i created using yr instruction.

Okie give up! as GPRS very fast and smooth but MMS failed to sent massage.
Okie just get to know that I can received the MMS but can’t download the picture, so I think the MMS functions can’t work at my clone iphone.

Finally I managed to set the GPRS and MMS function (DiGi) in my China (Omnia) phone after using it for about a year. And you are right about trying again and again if we do not get it right after a few times. I followed your advice to follow your tutorial more carefully each time I try again and after perhaps the 5th attempt, it was successful!

Yap I had follow Raj instruction and GPRS works well, just MMS can’t work erm… ooo yap i bought set clone iphone in Fair last 2 weeks ago and one can bluetooth and another one can’t. But luckly wireless and wifi all going smooth and fast.

i had a china nokia N70, i encounter a problem as below”
- When i save the contact number example : 012-345 6789, when people calling me i will c the caller ID but when people sms me i cant see the caller ID and only see the h/p number appear.
- When i save the contact number +6012-345 6789 then when incoming call i cannot see the caller ID and only can c the number apper but when incoming sms i can see the ID, Raj can u help?
[Hi, I had the same problem as well. I did it like this last time. In one sim card I saved the number with +6 and on the other sim card I save it without the +6. So sms and call will work.]

hi Raj, need some advise, lately i buy I iphone 3Gs & X6 (china mobile). i have some problem which i couldnt understand, when using wifi to surf, the phone still eating my prepaid credit…….. is there something did i miss???? N also… for the iphone, it can received mms but cant be open?????

I’m using a clone iphone 3gs and having the same issue. GPRS worked really well but when it comes to MMS, failed big time. Can received but not download.
FYI, I used to work in a telco provider and have helped so many peeps in their mms/grps setting.. Means I do understand everything in your tutorial and hv done everything correctly.
but there’s some limitation in china phone. Smtimes..they just can’t work and no matter how hard u tries. I just gave up on it and hate it so much..

msg for honey-bee…. for wifi u have to be on the place…. example:at old town white cofee, u have to be in the place…. i try it alot……and then i figure up y…hihihiihi.(something wrong with the hardware) but some china mobile(blackberry)can catch up the wifi signal very strong….(soooo jealous)…

1)the China Mobile GPRS connect itself… even after u turn it off..
2)since it China GPRS cant it consume our kredit..coz last time i check my credit a bit lower before i realize the E simbole..
3)the setting for GPRS….(keep changing to default name) something like dtmxs.. but still the maxis configuration….

it eats up a lot of credits when i tried to send MMS but then sending failed. After I received the error msg, then I saw an ‘E’ for edge or ‘G’ signal above the screen. Not when sending. Not sure why.
1- normally my internet profile services is set to Wifi. Do I need to select ‘GPRS’ 1st when sending MMS?

hello raj, i have followed every detail of the instruction i cant fix the mms problem. I’m using CSL’s blueberry a-9350, which i believe a china phone as well. Can u help me? When ever i send an mms, i get this FAILED TO SEND MESSAGE. this is frustrating.
[Haha, yes it is frustrating at times but you have to keep trying. If your phone has the function, means it can send and receive mms just that you have to find the way to input these settings so that it suits the service provider.]

[Hi Ben, glad you got it working.. About the apps, I can't say much because most China phones doesn't work well with the normal application.]
1. Please make sure you have activated your GPRS & MMS.
If you haven’t, please do so. For DiGi press *128# and for Maxis press *100# and navigate the menu for GPRS & MMS activation and request for the activation first.
2. Then, navigate your phone to Services.
3. There you will find Data Account with certain default data accounts. Select one of those and click edit.
4. Now input these settings into the data account :-
DiGi GPRS
Account Name : DiGi GPRS
APN : digiwap
User : digi
Password : *Leave it empty
Auth. type : Normal
For DiGi, you need to set another data account for MMS with the settings below :
Account Name : DiGi MMS
APN : digimms
User : mms
Password : mms
Auth. type : Normal
Maxis GPRS
Account Name : Maxis WAP GPRS
APN : net
User : maxis
Password : net
Auth. type : Normal
Celcom GPRS

5. Then save this setting and go back to the Services menu. There you will find WAP/Browser, enter it and select settings.

OK, now this is the tricky part in China phones. In that same menu you will see Connection Type which is originally set to HTTP. In our setting’s we also need to set it it HTTP but don’t just leave it like that.
6. Select HTTP and enter it and then you will find proxy address and proxy port. These are the most important part of setting up this GPRS/MMS.

Hello, i still cant use my mms…actually at first i hve done it on my own…i got the details from maxis website…but ofcos those settings are general n no http settings…when i read this page..i checked on my phone n found some tat i put is wroung…now everytin is correct..n in fact am 100 percent sure tat i filled it correctly on my china phone….i hve acteivated the gprs n even 3g….but i still cant use…

[If GPRS worked, then you should try harder setting up the MMS again. Follow the tutorial carefully. Yes possible to set only to WiFi. GPRS and WiFi cannot be used together.]
i have a China made Iphone, Maxis GPRS and WAP working, but the MMS is not working , i can’t send or receive MMS, it keeps on saying failed to connect to the server. I have followed exactly all the steps you stated here but still no luck..really sad..
